What does GSM stand for?
You may have seen this abbreviation floating around online and in stores for some time. Do you have any idea what it really means? GSM stands for “grams per square metre”. Seems simple enough, though it is sometimes difficult to understand how this relates directly to bedding and quilts.
Basically, GSM refers to the weight of quilt fillings. Many manufacturers, including us, use GSM to help determine how heavy or warm a quilt is. Generally speaking, the higher the GSM, the thicker the quilt and the warmer you will be.
GSM is an important part of choosing the right bedding for you! It’s right up there with thread counts, fibre, filling, size, budget, hypoallergenic… it can get overwhelming. Here at Easy Rest, our luxury quilts come in different warmth ratings. After independent testing for warmth and breathability, we have listed them coolest to warmest. Depending on if you are a hot, warm or cold sleeper you can use our warmth rating system to guide your choice.
You will notice that our Luxury Australian 100% Wool 500gsm Quilt is ranked as one of our warmer quilts. Whilst the same Luxury Australian 100% Wool 300gsm Quilt is ranked as one of our cooler options.
As the seasons are beginning to change, it is important to consider whether you need a quilt change as well. We know it’s not possible for everyone to have a “summer quilt” and a “winter quilt”, so make sure you take the time, do your research and refer to the warmth ratings to help determine which quilt and which GSM bests suits you!
